AAA Joins CITA – Strengthening Our Commitment to Safer and Cleaner Vehicles

When Africa Automotive Analysis set out in 2018 to bring professional vehicle inspection services to Zambia, the goal was never just to pass or fail vehicles against a checklist. It was to build a system people could trust, one aligned with how the rest of the world thinks about road safety and vehicle quality. Joining CITA, the International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee, is the next step in that journey.

CITA brings together vehicle inspection organizations from around the globe, all working toward the same broad goals: safer vehicles, cleaner emissions, and inspection standards that hold up to international scrutiny. Membership is not something handed out casually. It means sitting alongside inspection bodies from established markets, sharing technical knowledge, and staying current with how vehicle safety and emissions standards are evolving worldwide.

For AAA, this matters in a very practical way. As an ISO/IEC 17020:2012 accredited inspection body and the accredited inspection partner of AutoTerminal Japan, we already operate under strict requirements for competence and impartiality. CITA membership adds another layer, connecting our day-to-day inspection work in Nakonde to a global conversation about what roadworthiness and emissions testing should look like as vehicle technology changes.

It also means something for the people bringing their vehicles through our doors. When a used vehicle arrives in Zambia from Japan, the UAE, Singapore, the UK, South Africa, or the US, our inspectors are applying standards informed by international best practice, not just local requirements. CITA membership reinforces that the Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency’s ZS 560 roadworthiness standard, which governs our inspections, sits within a much larger global effort to keep unsafe and high-polluting vehicles off the road.

This is not a one-time achievement we are filing away. Being part of CITA means ongoing participation, ongoing learning, and ongoing accountability to a standard set by peers who take vehicle inspection as seriously as we do. It is one more reason customers can have confidence that when their vehicle passes through AAA, it has been assessed against criteria that matter, not just locally, but internationally.

We are proud to take this step, and we see it as part of a broader pattern. From our ISO/IEC 17020:2012 accreditation through KENAS, to our ongoing partnership with ATJ, to this new membership with CITA, AAA continues building the kind of inspection organization Zambia’s vehicle owners, and the broader automotive sector, can rely on for years to come
